1993 Honda Accord Vibration - Engine

Question: I recently purchased a 1993 Honda Accord for my teenage daughter for her first car. It has 119, 000 miles on it. I feel a vibration in the steering wheel when brake is applied and car comes to a complete stop. The car also idles rough when in reverse or A/C is on. Any suggestions on what might becausing this? I took the car to a reputable mechanic and he suggested that the engine mounts may be worn, which is why I feel more vibration. I was thinking the idle may need adjusted, but I was told there is nothing to adjust, it's all electronic. Thank you Roxane

Technican: Hi, These Honda Accords have frequent problems with idle speed vibrations coming from the rear motor mount. This mount is adjustable, with an oil filled absorber controlled by vacuum. This vacuum actuated mount can fail in several different ways. The proper way to check is to observe (on a lift) if the actuator moves when engine speed is changed from idle to 1500RPM. If it moves, the control system is working, and the mount may be bad, or some other problem. If it does not move, then the control system should definitely be repaired. Other possible causes include timing belt installed wrongly (balance shaft out of time), although this usually vibrates at higher RPM. Idle speed should be about 750 RPM in park with the A/C off.
Owner: I will forward this info to my mechanic. One last question: Radio antenna makes a clicking noise when retracting when engine is shut off. Is this the antenna motor?
Technican: Needs new mast. $50 +labor
Owner: You said "needs new mast. $50 + labor Can you define mast.? I'm a woman, so that abbreviation is not familiar to me.
Technican: Antenna stem.
