1991 Honda Accord Leaking - Engine

Question: 1991 EXR..I recently changed my valve cover gasket that had been leaking in the front for some time. That leak is completely fixed now, but there seems to be oil leaking from the top of the manifold gasket now. I am not sure if it would be oil that has leaked in there from previous and is just getting pushed out now, or if it is my head gasket. From my inspection i can't see any other oil leaking except on the front and it seems to high to be from my head gasket. Any ideas??...thanks Shane

Technican: How much oil are you seeing now? Did you change the oil after replacing the valve cover gasket. Fresh (clean) oil will be easier to identify than oil that is black. All oil on the engine turns black. If it's old oil it'll already be black. If it's fresh oil from the engine it won't be black when it first leaks out. Once you identify if this is a fresh oil leak we'll go from there. A note of caution- always use extreme caution around moving engine parts! This might be something you already know, but I'd rather err on the side of caution.
Owner: Thanks for the reply: No i didn't change the oil after i changed the valve cover gasket, but i did clean the entire engine to make sure i could see any new leaks. The amount of oil coming out is less now, i tightened the manifold bolts. I guess my actual question is; does the manifold gasket cover the head gasket because it looks to me that the head gasket is below the manifold which makes me think that it is not my head gasket. The oil is getting pushed out of the TOP of the manifold gasket and from my knowledge there shouldn't be oil in the manifold. I was just going to take the manifold off and see what is behind it. One more question, if it is my head gasket do you reccomend using a stop leak oil treatment or no. Thanks Shane
Technican: Hello, There is a problem with stop leak treatments even though on occassion they work as advertised. The problem is many work by swelling seals which (sometimes) works on a leak BUT can create a new leak by swelling a good seal. I would recommend against a stop leak if you plan on keeping the car for a while. If you just need it to last for a few months, then the risk isn't so high. In short stop leaks are very poor when you are looking for a permanent repair, but I still can't say they never work. Use the link below for pictures of your engines.
