1992 Chev K1500 Won't Start - Engine

Question: Usually after idling the truck will quit, and will not restart. Nothing I have found will start the engine, have manually put fuel in the carburetor and tried to start it, disconnected the injectors and floored the accelerator, nothing will start the truck but leave it sit for a couple hours and give it a try and the truck will start like nothing ever happened. Took the truck to the chev garge and they could not get it to repeat and thought it might be fuel related, this is why I had tried the fuel thing.

Technican: Hi; Sounds like you got an ignition problem. Might want to change out the distributor module. Most time this will cause a problem and not set a code in the computer. .

Owner: The ignition problem answer is the next thing to look at, but why the distributor module? Why would it malfunction when the engine is at idle and not when under load?

Technican: Hi; The ignition module is electronic and therefore would be more heat sensible while idling and not when running down the road when air is force across it. Thanks.

Owner: I think you was close, when I removed the cap I noticed the spring loaded contact was missing, replaced the cap and rotor, and all seems better. Jack

Owner: would the replacement of the cap and rotor cause a change in timing? Or is this a good thing to do because of age?

Technican: Hi; The replacement can cause a change of timing due to the way it is built.I have not seen to many that go to far out of timing. Also it's always good to double check the timing for proper engine operation. Thanks
