Question: Hi, when cold l can drive 80 mph for a long time, when l slow down on a traficc lifht it will die and only start after 4 minutes of waiting, it may go again for a long time and if stalls l have to wait 3 to 5 minutes to start again, replaced fuel filter, many sensors, check timing, etc. some say is a cold swicht stuck, some say is the fuel pump, other the injector, the problem is consistent, after driving for a half hour or more if stalls i will have to wait 3 to 5 minutes to start again, coil is cold, engine cylinder block was rebuilt.

Technican: Hello, When this happens and your car won't start for a few minutes, does the starter spin the engine, or not? Is your transmission an automatic?
Please advise. Owner: is automatic, the starter does work, it try, s to start buy it only crank`s, almost fires up, when engine does start, idle well but when l shift to drive it stalls again, after 4 minutes idles and goes in drive aganist its will but it goes. Technican: Have you condidered the fuel filter that is inside the fuel tank? It is a very fine mesh, shaped similar to a test tube, and if it is dirty, it will collapse from the suction of the running of the fuel pump and you 'run out of gas'... for lack of fuel flow.
After the engine stops and the suction inside the filter stops, the filter will expand and allow fuel to flow until the pump sucks the filter flat again and flow is again restricted.
The fuel tank has to come down to change this filter in most cases. You will of course want the fuel tank near EMPTY to facilitate repairs.
Your car could have a transmission torque converter clutch problem, but not likely as the engine would restart, run fine but die the moment you selected a gear.
Your turn, Owner: It sounds like it could be it, someone had said that the pump may be week, so for this two reazons maybe pump week and inside filter cloged l will remove the tank soon and check it out, thank`s, will let you know. Technican: I believe the filter to be clogged, but you may not need a new pump unless you see evidence of the wiring connector or wires on the pump and sending unit assembly have been overheating. It's your call and your money. A new filter comes with a pump purchase but, the filter can be bought seperately, if you want to go that way.
I'll look forward to your next message. Technican: Are you there? Technican: Hello? What is the status here please? Technican: Please update the status on this question. Technican: Please update! Technican: Waiting for an update here, please? Technican: May I hear from you, please? Thanks! Technican: Hello? Will you please update this question status? Technican: Are we finished here?
