1988 Chev Corsica Stalling - Drive Train & Driveline

Question: was told torque locking due to bad solenoid engine will start and run fine until trans engaged forward and reverse i own 3 of these i just put this one on the road only 70, 000 mi. on it my others 150 plus i never had this before and have driven a few of these tough old cars into the ground is there something i am missing i did just change the rad and starter and discovered the tranny solenoid unplugged i stuck it back in and this is my reward? any feedback would be nice thx bruce

Technican: Hello, The info you offer is consistant with the nature of the complaint. Someone knew about the problem or they wouldn't have disconnected the solenoid. A replacement solenoid, fluid, filter and a pan gasket should get you going again. At today's gas prices you deserve the economy of the torque converter clutch operation to minimize slip.

Owner: im not a tranny expert by any definition, so this solenoid is for odrive only and it basically is a gas saver as stated, i tried disconnection when i was on the side of the road but it didnt work so should it work if i unplug before going anywhere and the stalling should stop? parts are no problem i have 3 identical corsicas in the yard diagnosis is all i want thanks guys bruce

Technican: Hi; If it this not change anything then most likely you have more tranny problems. The lock up torque converter should engage the trans into overdrive. Sounds like you might have valve body problems. Thanks.
