1988 Chev Corsica Making Noise - Chassis, Suspension & Steering

Question: Car squeeks when steering wheel is turned. Does it need steering fluid? And if so, where do I put it? The car runs good otherwise.

Technican: Hello, A couple of things can make a squeak when turning. 1. Ball joints or tie rod ends that need grease. Good ole grease gun takes care of joints like these. Note that these parts may have severe wear if they've not been greased as recommended by the maintenance schedule for your car. See a front-end specialist for a safety evaluation. 2. Low power steering fluid level. This is most often a low buzzing sound or even a growl like noise. You'll find a black colored resevoir with a twist-off cap that states "Power Steering Fluid" on the cap. Since the P/S Pump is driven by the belt you can look along the path of the belt and find the only item driven by the belt that has a fluid resevoir with a cap on it. Depending on which engine you have the Power Steering Pump can be on the firewall side of the engine and a little tough to see and service. Do not overfill and use only Power Steering Fluid. NO transmission fluid may be used here except in an emergency. Your thoughts?,
