1988 Chev Celebrity Won't Start - Engine

Question: I have a 1988 chevy celebrity 2.8L. When i first bought car 1 month ago it needed a battery, starter and alternator, then was on highway and all power was sucked out of battry I bought another battery cuz told warranty not covered. Anyways found a short in glove box and before trunk lid, engine hood lite and interior lite and stereo did not work and once found the all was restored. When test driven after finding the short it stalled and has never started since. There is no spark but there is fuel for sure!! BEEN TOLD WHEN BATTERY DRAINED COMPLETELY THE COMPUTER "FORGET" HOW TO FIRE!!! IS THERE ANY TRUTH TO THIS?? WHERE DO I START TESTING OR WHERE DO I START ???

Technican: Hi; My first check will be the distributor module. A lot of auto part stores will check it for you for free. This is what tells the coil when to fire the spark plugs. Also take the cap off and inspect it real good. Sometimes they will crack inside and cause the spark to go to the shortest ground. Also take a look at the button on the cap. It will ware out and cause a bad connection. .

Technican: Hi; If the battery goes dead it does not the computer does not forget how to fire. The computer has to get a signal from the distributor. All this does it tells it how many RPM is running.
