Technican: Hello, They can be very stubborn and even break off. Can you get a tool in place to turn it or are you using just your hand? Did you remove the radiator cap to depressurize the system? Be careful!
If you can get access for a pair of pliers or 90 degree angled needle nose it should come loose. Not all these plastic petcocks unscrew to open.
Be careful to watch for the petcock to simply "unlock" by turning only slightly and not turn anymore. If that happens you are finished trying to turn it. Its time to wiggle and pull it straight back to open the drain.
If it acts like it will break you might consider taking the lower radiator hose loose using care to avoid burns from hot coolant coming out.
If it does break, a replacement is usually available at your auto parts store.
Thoughts?, Owner: i did not take the radiator cap off to take the pressure off but i did try to turn it with pliers and it would not budge. Technican: Is the petcock plastic? Try pulling out and turning counter clockwise at the same time.
Removing the radiator cap relieves pressure for your safety. As you suspect, it has nothing to do with whether or not the petcock will turn. Here's How To Get Guaranteed Solutions In Minutes
