1999 Chev Cavalier Malfunction - Electrical & Lighting Systems

Question: My ABS light comes on intermittently. I have checked the brakes for leaking and wear and the sensor wires for breakage, but have found nothing. I also have intermittent problems with the "air bag" light coming on as well as the "Brake" light coming on. One time I did have the "Engine" light turn on and the engine died, but started right back up. About a month ago a whine developed that increased when I reved the engine, but I do not know if that is related. Can you help?

Technican: Your problem probably lies in one of the four wheel sensors for the ABS. There is a better test than the resistance check Unplug each of the wheel sensors. Spin the wheel segment rings and check for AC voltage at the sensors. You should have between 1 to 3 volts AC if the system is operating properly. Also check to see if you have a slightly loose wheel bearing that is allowing the segment ring to contact the wheel sensor. The airbag light will "light" when there is a malfunction in the airbag system. The fault code is then stored in the computer. The computer must be scanned to retrieve these stored faults to pinpoint the malfunctioning component. Because the airbag light indicates something is wrong, a trip to you neighborhood automobile service center sooner rather than later is recommended. Your airbag system may not be functioning. The check engine light is doing its job letting you know that there are other problems Due to the potential injury from air bags, we recommend having a qualified mechanic do all related repairs. I hope this helps Macconeck
Owner: I have checked each sensor and they appear to be working. I also want to explain something else that has happened today. I started my car and the ABS and Brake light were on. This after they were off all day while I was driving. While I was at idle, the battery light came on and I lost all electrical power for about a second. To the point that it even affected the radio performance. It did not die, but it was wierd. I continued to go home and while I was on the freeway the car lost power again for about 3 seconds. When power came back all of the lights were off and everything was fine. Is there maybe something in the electrical system that would do that?
Technican: yes although it sounds like a problem with power to the ignition pack I believe there is a problem with a battery connection possibly at the post or a grounding problem you may want to check the chasis ground
