1998 Chev Cavalier Overheating - Engine
Question: I really appreciate your site. I just had the thermostat, temp sensor and water pump fixed. I was still noticing smoke from the passenger side and when I (slowly) removed the cap from the coolant reservior the coolant gushed out. The coolant light comes on after about 5 minutes of driving and the temp needle goes all the way to HOT. I'm a female and feel that I have already been taken advantage of. So please help! Thanks.

Technican: I would be glad to work on your car, but I am in NYC. You may have a blown head gasket (which is expensive). They can be hard to pinpoint without repairing the obvious (water pump, thermostat). Also, if either of those parts were bad and caused you to overheat, it can cause the head gasket to blow. Talk to the mechanic who did the work and have him check it again for you (no charge). If the head gasket is blown, you have a problem and it is not necessarily the mechanic's fault.
