1998 Chev Cavalier Hesitating - Engine

Question: Hello I am having trouble when I first start the car and start driving. When accelerating it will cough and hesitate and sometimes stall. If it is really bad it will even cough in park and stall but most of the time when accelerating. It only does it when cold after it warms up it never skips a beat. I took it to a small town shop and they checked engine codes and found none they put a pressure gauge into the fuel rail and said pressure was good while it was coughing. I asked at another shop and they thought it was in the ignition system so changed both coils, plug wires and spark plugs. It seemed to help a little but still coughs sometimes but only for a few seconds and it is good again. Any help would be great. Thank you for your time.

Technican: Here are some ideas of problems that can cause these symptoms on cars like yours. Possibly a bad oxygen sensor. It could be from a faulty MAP sensor or a leak in the MAP sensor hose. It could be an EGR valve that is overactive. It could be a frayed wire going to the ignition coil or to the injectors. You can test the oxygen sensor by disconnecting it for several days to see if the problem disappears. Best wishes,
Owner: Hi thanks for the quick responce. I unhooked the o2 sencor and took it for a drive and it worked good. I will try it unhooked for a few days and see how it runs. The check engine light came on after it got up to operating temperature. If this works and I change the sencor what can I do to get the engine light to go out?
Technican: To turn the light off, you can either drive it it a repaired state for several weeks, or have a mechanic turn it off with a scanner. You may also be able to get the light out by removing the battery terminal for several minutes and pressing the brake pedal.
Owner: Hello again I drove the car today with the o2 sencor unpuged and it still heditated. Is there any way I can check the EGR valve or MAP sencor? Thanks again. Rob
Technican: I believe if you pull the vacuum hose from the EGR valve it will bypass the EGR valve. The MAP sensor can be checked by removing the vacuum hose. If there is any green silicone crumbs coming out of the MAP sensor, replace it. Also check the vacuum hose closely for any holes, cracks, pinches.
