1993 Chev Cavalier Other - Windows & Glass

Question: When car is running and being driven, it makes you extreamly sick. you can taste a sweet/salty/metalic taste in your mouth and makes you very dizzy and want to throw up. The heater core was just replaced and now the defrost does not work or the heater at your feet. The only place any air comes out is at the face. It is worse when the car is being driven and when the heat is on.

Technican: It sure sounds like there was a problem with the heater core installation. It needs to be checked to see if : 1. The hoses are leaking where they attach to the heater core 2. The new heater core itself is defective 3. The was a coolant leak elsewhere to begin with. The best way to check for leaks is by pressurizing the cooling system and see where pressure is escaping. The tool used for this job can be borrowed (for a fully refundable deposit) at some autparts stores including autozone. Did you replace the heater core yourself or was this done by a profesional?"
Owner: It was done by a profesional. Would the pressure tell me if the core was bad?
Technican: Yes, the pressure will escape wherever there is a leak. If a professional did this at a shop they are responsible to at least double check their work. Have you called them back and explained the situation? Another thing, you are likely getting low on coolant. Don't allow it to run low enough to overheat as this can cause engine damage.
Owner: Yes i have called and explained to them what is happening and they told me to bring it back in. They said they looked at it and said things were fine and that i must be imagining the sickness and drive with my window cracked open.
Technican: It's possible there was some coolant left over from the repair that you were smelling, but this would not last long. It sure sounds like the shop is dishonest, time will tell. BTW- If you visit autozone.com they have free vehicle repair guides for your car. These are the equivalent of a haynes or chiltons repair manual.
Owner: THANK YOU!!! YOU HAVE BEEN VERY HELPFUL!! HOPE YOU HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY!!!
Technican: Your welcome. I'd like to stick with you through the repair. Do you plan on trying to diagnose yourself or try another shop? Forgot to mention, it's beyond ridulous for them to say you are imagining the smell.
Owner: ok this is the 3rd time i am going to try this... i will be trying the pressure thing this weekend as i am at work. I have replace a heater core before in another cavalier so i pretty much know what i would be getting myself in to if i would have to replace this one. i did look up autozones "how to" and it looks pretty easy to get to. its my mothers car and she is in a wheelchair so i makes things harder for here to get things done.
Technican: Okay let me know what you find.
Owner: well, i found a mechanic and he did a pressure test on the system and as he was doing so, he was looking at the heater core and there were no leaks anywhere. he also found that the other mechanic let the fluid leak out onto the floor and the back seat area and under the passengers seat was soaked with antifreeze so he took out the pading under the carpet and dried everything out. I drove it back to my mothers and it seemed to be ok. Again i want to thank you for your help. you guys are great!!!
Technican: I made this statement before: "It's possible there was some coolant left over from the repair that you were smelling, but this would not last long" I should of added... "Unless they were sloppy as [heck]" Stop back if you have any problems. Cheers
