1992 Chev Cavalier Other - Engine
Question: MY PROBLEM IS WHEN THE CAR GETS TO OPERATING TEMP. IT STARTS TO SURGE & RUN ROUGH. WHEN THE MOTOR IS COLD IT SOUNDS & RUNS LIKE A NEW MOTOR. I'VE DONE JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING POSSIBLE AS FOR A TUNE-UP. I SO REPLACED BOTH COILS, DIS MODULE, INTAKE MANIFOLD & PLENUM GASKETS, CAT COVERTER & MUFFLER. I SO DISASSEMBLED THE FUEL RAIL & CLEANED THE FUEL INJECTORS. I'VE CHECKED FOR VACUUM LEAKS SO IT RUNS AROUND 22hg. I DID HAVE 3 ECM CODES BUT CORRECTED THEM ACCORDINGLY. ANY IDEA'S WHAT MAY BE WRONG. I FEEL IT MAY BE a FUEL PROBLEM. ANY SUGGESTION'S???????????

Technican: If I were working on this car, I would put a scanner on it and watch my fuel trims. (block learn and integrator) Both should be running around 128. If they are more than 140, or less than 115 there is a fuel control problem. The most likely problem is a sensor that is sending a wrong reading, but not bad enough to set a code. Most likely suspects are oxygen sensor, coolant temperature sensor, MAP sensor. If you can read them on a scanner, it will shorten the process. Owner: THANKS FOR YOUR REPLY. I DID CHANGE 2 OF THE 3 SENSORS. I DIDNT THINK ABOUT CHECKING THE TEMP. SENSOR. ITS TOUGH GETTING OLD. I'LL GET BACK TO YOU ON HOW I MADE OUT. THANKS AGAIN!
