1992 Chev Cavalier Hesitating - Fuel System
Question: Have '92 Cavalier, 110K+ miles, 2.2 w/ stick that hesitstes when leveling off at constant speed. Began right after I had minor work done at oil change place, ie. oil change & fan belt replaced + new pcv valve, also had the fuel injectors "cleaned" (they sprayed cleaner in throttle body while I watched black smoke come from exhaust) what went wrong here?

Owner: PS. I pulled the spark plugs & they look okay. Technican: Hello, Spraying cleaner in the throttle body while you watch is not cleaning the injector spray nozzles at all. It just washes away coking that has built up on the throttle body walls and butterfly valves and the crud goes down the intake to the cylinders to be burned. Lots of smoke from the enriched mixture and little else is accomplished for the good of the engine.
I recommend having the fuel injectors flushed by a good technician that will substitute engine fuel with a flush chemical that cleans the nozzles from the inside out. And that only if such a flush is even needed.
The throttle position sensor (TPS), mass air flow sensor (MAF), fuel pressure, fuel filter condition, distributor cap and rotor, all can contribute to a hesitation event. So can a vacuum leak.
In short, you need someone to road test the car with you and diagnose the fault. A professional auto drivability technician. If spraying cleaner down the throttle body created a problem you did not have before, the shop that "created" the problem may be liable. Convincing them that they are liable will be a task. The drivability tech can help you prove or disprove such a liability.
