1991 Chev Cavalier Malfunction - General
Question: when starting the car, the "battery light" appears, and a light chugging motion happens, then when put into drive the "check engine light" also appears on, and when given gas to drive off, there is no steering! the wheel is stiff and will not turn.
do i need steering fluid? could it be the belt? why does the battery light stay on?
please help.

Technican: How long has this been happening? If the battery light is working as intended the system is not charging and will run the battery down and the car will not run.
A broken belt would cause you to lose power steering and the battery light to come on at the same time. If both happened at the same time look here first.
